»Ich fühle mich in Prinzendorf sehr wohl, aber der Kosmos ist meine Heimat!« (1988)
Already in the late 50th of the 20th century, Hermann Nitsch followed up the concept
of his orgies mysteries theatre, shortly named OMT. In many of his theoretical scripts
Nitsch dealed with subject matters of his new theatre theory.
The conception of the OMT implies:
. Inclusion of all 5 senses (visual, auditory and also smell, taste
and groping)
. Ideas of catharsis
. Containing religious, Christian themes
Castle of “Prinzendorf an der Zaya”, Weinviertel NÖ
From his childhood on Hermann Nitsch knows the castle of „Prinzendorf“, because he was often here to visit his aunt. When his wife Beate Nitsch inherited about 1 million schillings, they bought the castle in 1971. During the time Hermann Nitsch was famous with actions, exhibitions, lectures and concerts throughout Europe, Australia and the U.S. and was becoming one of the world`s most important Austrian artists. The castle of “Prinzendorf” was one reason for Hermann Nitsch to return to Austria, after several years of exile in Germany. Already in the early 60th, Nitsch decided that the castle of “Prinzendorf” should be the main stage and scene for his new theatre´s concept – the orgies mysteries theatre.
