Opening of the 2002 Exhibition
After two years of preparation, on Sunday the 24th March 2002, the renovated
spaces of the Petřínská Tower in Prague were again opened to public.
Together with this event the Cimrman´s tavern "Hospůdka Na Mýtince" with
refreshment for visitors and the permanent exhibition, which is dedicated to
the life and works of Jára Cimrman, were opened.
Introduction to the life of Jára Cimrman
Even though Jára Cimrman was destined to be a world famous celebrity of
great importance, he has not always been recognised as such, and has been
denied his rightful place amongst the giants of history.
After the discovery of his memoirs in the nord-bohemian village of Liptákov
in 1969, his figure has finally entered the knowledge of mankind, and for
Jára Cimrman the age of glory had dawned.
There are numerous reasons, why the search of historians, scientists and
cimrmanologists for the inheritance of this genius first began in very
recent times, nevertheless, thanks to their efforts, many of the inventions
and articles connected to his life start to ascend from the depths of long
forgotten history.
Many of these articles were assembled by Smoljak, Svěrák and Weigel over a
long period of time, so that they could form a complete collection,
that could be presented to the public.
The search for an appropriate exhibition chamber took a long time, but it
was worth it.
The exhibition is now situated in the groundfloor of the Prague Eiffel Tower
on Petřín.
Its location is quite fitting, considering the fact, that Cimrman helped
influence the final shape of the Eiffel Tower in Paris.
