Transistors are small electronic components that can amplify currents and voltages. Similar to a switch , they can also switch on and off electric circuits. Most transistors are operated at direct current voltages of under 12 V and consume only few mA of current.
Transistors consist of a semiconductor crystal with alternating p-and n-layers .
Very small currents between the base (gate) and the collector (anode) can control relatively high currents between the collector and the emitter (cathode). The powerful current follows the changes of the small current.
