It was possible to load a specific pattern of data into the computer by turning, a manually operated switch into the right position. Tubes enabled the operator to see how full the storage unit was.
Since all data patterns had to be put in individually this was a laborious process, which was, however important for the testing and experimental operation. For the input of larger amount of data, a teletype writer and later the photoelectric punched card reader as well as a punching machine was used.
