Weiden. (cd) Seating units with
wooden benches and no monotonous asphalt, but cobble stones
and a lot of plants: that's how the winning team of class 9d
would design the schoolyard. Chairman of the parents' council
Josef Ehlich was surprised about the number of suggestions developed
by the students of the 9th and 10th forms with the help of their
art teachers. Cash prizes were awarded for the best suggestions
which are to serve as an impulse for the redesigning of the
schoolyard.
"Choosing the winner was a difficult piece of work", said
Ehlich when he and headmaster Erwin Spitz congratulated the
winners on Thursday morning in the headmaster's office at Augustinus-Gymnasium.
This is why the parents' council increased the cash prize from
DM 600,- to DM 800,- after seeing all the models so as to be
able to honour all the
suggestions.
Due to an impulse from the Mayor saying that the schools themselves
should make suggestions as to the design of their schoolyard,
the parents' council of Augstinus-Gymnasium had started a competition
- with an unexpected echo: till the deadline on January 20,
34 suggestions were presented. So the jury, which consisted
of representatives of the students, the teachers and the parents,
had the difficult taste of picking a winner. |

Apart from the artistic
aspect and the harmony with the surrounding buildings, of course
also the costs and the realizability of the suggestions had
to be taken into account.
The first prize of DM 200,- was awarded to the students Elmar
Wünsch, Martin Weiß, Andreas Wies, Markus Schmid
and Horst Pleyer from class 9d for their joint effort. DM 100,-
were offered to Frank Rößler (9b) and Klaus Wirner
(10a) respectively. DM 50,- are given to classes 9a, 9c, 10b
and 10d for their cooperation.
Thanks were said to the students for their participation as
well as to the art teachers Roland Taubenberger and Franz Berg
without whose support the competition wouldn't have been possible.
The chairman of the parents' council intends to present the
winning suggestions to the Mayor hoping that some of the ideas
of the students can be realized. |
