Arid biotope in the schoolyard – proposals of the teachers of the Biology department

Exemplified by the arid biotope in our schoolyard the following topics are going to be discussed in the Biology lessons:
1. Arid locations enrich the landscape with their splendid flowers.
2. Arid locations attract a large number of invertebrate animals.
3. Arid locations locate many medicinal and plants and herbs.
4. The plants in arid locations have a high adaptation to the lack of water.
The Biology department emphasises the high proportion of flowers from spring to autumn.
The arrangement of plants in the arid biotope of the schoolyard should be equivalent to the real locations.

That is why we could imagine the following plants in our schoolyard biotope:
Ad 1: broom, King’s candle, night candle, nodding thistle, Echium vulgare, Hypericum montanum, Sarothamnus scoparius
Ad 2: thyme, Hieracium pilosella,
Ad 3: juniper, sage, mallow, Agrimonia eupatoria, wild carrot, stone clover, Cichorium intybus, wormwood
Ad 4: In the stony area of the biotope sempervivum montanum can be planted.

Many species can be added to this proposal. Naturally the biotope is subject to a strong change.
