Budget 1998
Application to grant budgetary means for the redesigning of the schoolyard of
Augustinus-Gymasiums

Encosures: 1 report by Mr Dirscherl (art teacher)
                    1 plan

For the budget year 1998 theAugustinus-Gymnasium submits a plan for altering its schoolyard into a modern area for recreation and communication and asks for examination and approval by the city council.
The enclosed explanatory report by Mr Dirscherl serves to justify this project. Moreover we want to mention that today a schoolyard ist not only used during the breaks in the morning, but that it is also a place for students to stay during their lunch break and in the afternoon. Today students at a "Gymnasium" have more often regular classes and elective classes in the afternoon and students of the upper classes have afternoon classes an average of three times per week. Schedules are mor and more individual and that means that the students have more free periods that they spend on the school premises and, if possible, in the schoolyard. That is why a schoolyard should be so attractive that it incites students to spend their potential free time there.
The school considers the submitted plans for redesigning particularly suitable for this end. It offers the following advantages:
  • it has been developed on the basis of a survey at our school in view of certain target groups.
  • it takes into account the interests and needs of our students
  • it tries to harmonize these needs with given circumstances and possibilities (also in financial respect by allowing also a gradual realization)
  • it contains the potential of creating community spirit by offering and explicitly demanding support by students, teachers and parents as well as the association for the promotion of the interests of Augustinus-Gymnasium.
  • by planning an outdoor classroom it allows to include to schoolyard into classwork
  • it represents the condition for creating a piece of "corporate identity" and thus has an eminent pedagogical and social dimension
The school is aware of the fact that this project of redesigning our schoolyard means a high financial expense for the town of Weiden. However, taking the mentioned concessions into account (gradual realization, financial help - to a certain degree - from the sphere of the school) the realization should be possible.

That ist why the school asks the town of Weiden for a determined financial commitment within the budget 1998.
