Zeillerschule
Paul Zeiller (1658-1738), a member of the famous Zeiller-family, founded that most important painting-school in the Außerfern. In this kind of school the apprenticeship was very strict and monotone. In the first year of ones apprenticeship the trainee only had to mix nature colours and to do lots of drwaing practices. If the apprentice worked hard and officiously he was allowed to draw drafts of paintings and frescos on walls after the first year. After three years of apprenticeship the trainee didnt only have to draw sketches, he also was allowed to paint them and to design paintings, too.
In contrast to the present a painter wasnt an artist in former times but he was a craftsman. For a master painter it was more important to choose obedient people instead of talented ones. Especially for Paul Zeiller it was very important that his students obeyed him. Otherwise he often reached for unorthodox methods like his son Johann Jakob Zeiller got to know.
The partons of the Zeillerschule mostly ever were rectories and monasteries or convents, rich relatives and bourgeoises who wanted to donate freely altarpieces and crossroadstations for churches, chapels and rooms in monasteries or convents.

Last
Judgement
Oil on canvas, 18th/19th century
In the middle of the painting there are angels floating on both sides. Above Jesus sits on a cloud and acts as a saviour. On the right and left side of Jesus people who are already relieved sit on clouds. Beneath them on earth there is a huge flock of people that is divided into two groups. On the right hand side the hell is situated with fire, devils and suffering people. Whereas on the right hand people, accompanied by angels, get deliverance. Those people seem to be calm and peaceful. Between hell and deliverance there is a path with some holes in the ground. A few people come out of those holes. In the foreground everything is painted richly coloured and in a detailed way and strong. but Hardly any light-shadow effects are used which were typical for the baroque painting. In the background the colours are merging and applied more thinly. You cant see things well, but in the foreground you can see every detail. The most noticeable colour is red. Last Judgement is a painting of the Zeillerschule. It shows the ending the good and the bad peoples ending in heaven and hell.
