BUNDESREALGYMNASIUM REUTTE
On September 15, 1957 school-bells rang for the first time at the private grammar school in Reutte with 27 students and 2 teachers. At that time the parents had to pay monthly tuition fees of ATS 200-300,-. The first lessons were given in the hotel Tirolerhof because Dr. Thomas Stollwitzer couldnt get hold of any other free rooms. Then the Firma Plansee offered accommodation to the 68 students in a former barrack.
Since it was a private school all students had to take exams at the end of each trimester. The instructors came from Landeck and exams in each subjects had to be taken on the same day. Nowadays no student could imagine writing more than one test on the same day, but then... On May 31, 1959 the school became public and the problem of taking many exams was no longer given. July 4, 1958 was a very special day for 6 students because they took the first a-levels at our school.
On May 23, 1959 the school opened a new branch, namely Metallurgy. Until the 1966, when the first girl enrolled, this sector remained dominated by men. This special type of school lasted for 5 years, with a-levels at the end of the 5th form. The technical branch followed, which lasts for 4 years. Still theres only a handful of girls among many male students. On September 11, 1967 the first lesson was given for the first time in the new school building.
There are 69 teachers with Hofrat Günther Glatz as the principal of the school.
At our school a lot of project work is being done, which is appreciated all over the province of Reutte. Therefore the atmosphere at our school is very relaxed and balanced. First we want to mention Fun & Friends where high school students and teachers work in a team, in order to make school-life for juniors more easy.
Furthermore there is Theresienstadt and Help for Albania which work with the Red Cross. A refugee camp, a hospital and a school in Albania are well looked after and a lot of money is raised at various. Theresienstadt is about the looking after of a refugee camp in Prague. Apart from these projects theres plenty of time left for studying with great enthusiasm, both students and teachers together.
Sports events play an important role at our school. This is underlined by the annual ski trip to Saalbach, a wonderful village in Austria, where 2nd and 4th form students enjoy a wonderful week of skiing in the Austrian mountains.
Socialising reaches its heyday with the annual school dance on January 5. The event is organised by graduates according to a certain motto that changes from year to year. This years dance followed the motto of Summer of 69.
This was some historical and present information on our school.
