Rottneros

THE PARKS STORY:

The name "Rottneros" comes from the old words "ROTN" = roaring and "OS" = fall. Toghether it means the roaring water fall. In the area you can find tracks from the Iron Age and east of the lake there are some graves from the Bronze Age. During the great ironmaster Gustaf Adolf Walls, the estake got it´s shape and this was kept until the big fire 1929. The estate was model to "Ekeby" and Selma Lagerlöfs "Gösta Berlings Story". After the big iron works crises, the iron industry had come to an end. Hampus Edvard Montgomery began the production of paper in 1887. He bought the estate including property and house.

The Lucia night in 1929 the house burnt down and just a bucket full of sausages and some chairs were saved. The two arcitects for the park was Edvard Jacobsson and Sven Hermelin. In the end the arcitect Per Evert Taube designed the pavilion in the south end of The Kings garden, and the arcitect Göran Lindell designed Rottneros hallen.
